Spider Cookie Memories

This past Tuesday was
an absolute blast!
The kinderkids created adorable spider headbands, listened, read Halloween stories, and watched how to create a
spider cookie using yummy ingredients, and then families came in to help us.

We ended the afternoon with a few of our favorite
Halloween brain-break songs.
As a teacher who absolutely ADORES this group, I applaud all of my families that came, sent supplies, or helped a classmate that need an adult to help them.
Bravo Room 5 families!

Geometric Jack-o-Lanterns!

Using our circles, triangles, ovals, rectangles, and squares
we created an very funny pumpkin face!

We know that curved edges create rounded shapes and straight edges
can create angled shapes.
At our conferences, next week, you will get to see our geometric jack-o-lanterns up close!
Please remember to help me cutting at home.  It helps me with my
 fine motor skills!

Number Skills in Room 5!

In Kindergarten, there are
foundation number skills
that are necessary to have mastered by May, in order to be successful in
First Grade.

On a daily basis, the KinderKids in Room 5 are
practicing, developing, and mastering our
counting, identifying, and subitizing (recognizing arrays by sight, without counting)
of numbers.
At home, you could foster this development by counting objects, numbering your grocery list, using apps or online websites, and doing paper/pencil skills regarding numbers.
As I mentioned at the apple party in September, by the end of the year, your child must be able to:
*count to 100 by 1's, 5's, and 10's
*count backwards from 20 to 0.
*write his/her numbers to 100
(without a chart, preferably)
*identify number arrays from 1-6
(formations of dots on a dice or on a ten-frame)
*identify numbers 0-20 in random order
*count on from any number between 0-10
*count backwards from any number between 0-10
*add sums to 10
*subtract simple equations

NOBODY FREAK OUT!
We still have over 140 days of school remaining and it will be my professional duty to ensure your child is equipped and prepared to move into First Grade with these skills.
If I have any hesitation, we will be speaking at conferences and throughout the school year about how to intervene and boost the number sense skills.

Brain Buddies!

Every month, your child has a
brain buddy .
This partner, typically, sits near them at the table.
There are some kinders that have a brain buddy at another table, however.
Brain buddies, also, sit together on the carpet for the ease of a
"turn and talk" partner.
So, why do we have
brain buddies in Room 5?
The answer is easy.
Brain Buddies help us think, solve problems, are built-in learning game partners, boost our self-esteem, increase our language and vocabulary, and help with our social skills.
In Room 5, we work together, learn together, and have fun together!
Ask your child who his/her brain buddy is this month.

Apple Party!

On Friday, September 29th, our classroom became little performers in Room 5!
We got to sing many of our learning math and reading songs that help our brains master skills.
Even though this group tends to be a tad quieter than my past KinderKids, they are such a wonderful group of self-managers!
I am, truly, loving being their Kindergarten teacher!
Thank you to all of my families who attended, donated items for the snack, and shared a warm smile!

We look forward to having our families back inside the classroom on
October 25th for a Spider Cookie Party.
