Valentine Concert Time Change!!!

Due to a 2nd grade concert occuring at the end of the day on Thursday, Feb. 14th, I've had to push up our concert to ensure there is enough parking in our school parking lot.
So....NOW, our Valentine Concert for families is at 1:30-2:00pm.  You'll be welcome to sign out your child after the concert.
Please change your caledars to new time:  Thursday, Feb. 14th @ 1:30pm in our classroom!

THank you for being flexible!

Snow Center Memories!

On Monday, we invited our families into the classroom for a fun 30 minutes of snow centers.
The kids painted snowmen, played a dice game to build a snowman, read snow books, and made an estimation of blue candy canes.

As you can see from their faces, it was a FANTASTIC time together!

We ended the afternoon with a warm cup of hot cocoa with marshmallows.  YUMMY!

Thank you to all the families who came to support your child!  We'll see you all in a few weeks for our Valentine concert.

Junie B. Jones!

If you have not heard about this silly, little Kindergarten girl yet, I am sure you will!  Every day, after lunch recess, I read aloud the Junie B. Jones series and, boy, the class LOVES it!  The KinderKids can relate to her, as she is experiencing the adventures of Kindergarten, too!

The author, Barbara Parks is a fantastic writer and she has a great way of communicating Kinder-thoughts in print.  She, also, has a 1st grade series which is just as silly!

Be prepared, though~~she writes as if she was a KinderKids.   Therefore, there are grammatical errors and, at times, she uses language that may not be appropriate for your household.  In the classroom, I changed what she says to make it appropriate.
For example, if she said, "I hate that!"  I would change it to, "I do not like that!"

Go pick up a Junie B. book  today!

Measuring and Comparing!

We've started our new math unit~ Measuring and Comparing
with both standard (ruler) and
non-standard (cubes) tools.
The Kinders are LOVING IT!
Thus far, we've just measured our feet and some common items found inside the room,  but I am amazed at how quickly they are picking up the concept.

Soon, you'll see a paper ruler come home and I'm sure your child will be measuring things around the house!
Encourage them to explore and discuss their findings.
Likewise, try to facilitate math vocabulary(more than, greater, less than, fewer, longer, taller, wider, inches, etc.).
Furthermore, the concept of telling time has been introduced to the hour, so this, too, can be used as a way we measure time.  Can your child tell time to the hour?  Quiz them.
Tell your KinderKids to, "Kiss their Brain!"  Room 408 is, simply, amazing life-long learners!

Snowman, where man?

Can you find all the amazing snowman art that we've created this month for January?  Our fine motor skills are tightened as we use some of our math skills to make our own, individual masterpieces.
Lines, angels, curves, shapes...
they are all part of our vocabulary during these projects.

We've made our January quilt, our snowmen/snowgirls in the classroom, and we even wrote (using our high frequency words, of course) about snow!

If you haven't already, please stop by the classroom.
We can share a laugh together!

Pajama Day!

The Friday before we were out for Christmas vacation, Whitney Elementary celebrated with a school spirit day~~~PAJAMA DAY
We all came in our cozy and warm pajamas, along with blankets and pillows.  It was a peaceful and relaxing day.
Room 408 opened books, found a gift from Santa
(bells from his sleigh), and read/watched The Polar Express.

What a fun and amazing day as we made, yet, another memory in our classroom together!
