Measuring, measuring, measuring...

Did you realize that
measuring with standard/nonstandard units
is a Kindergarten expectation?
I know it may seem awfully young to expose the Kinders to the world of finding out how
tall, long, short, or wide something is, but...
THEY CAN DO IT!
These last few weeks, we've learned how to measure using nonstandard units
(paper clips, unifix cubes, counting bears)
to using a ruler for inches.
I will say, the rulers (Inchy the Inchworm)
is a huge hit!
The kinders understand what the markings means, what the 1/2" marks mean, how to accurately measure beginning at 0", and how many inches are in a ruler.
We are moving into
measuring with telling time.
It is NOT a Kindergarten standard, but I want my KinderKids to understand an analog clock, how the hands work, what the hands mean, and how to tell time to the hour and 1/2 an hour.
Room 5 is busy exercising their brains.
Can't you tell how big our brains are?
Are we blowing your mind yet?

Let it Snow!

Our weather has been quite weird and wacky,
making our January theme of snow
seem a tad odd.
But, Room 5 can still have the
SNOW SPIRIT and wish it would snow.
We, sometimes, do the snow dance to help:
Dance Like Snowflakes, dance like snowflakes...
In the air, in the air.
Whirling, whirling, twirling...whirling, whirling, twirling...
To the ground, to the ground.
As you can see, however, our
creative minds are flowing and we've been
creating, cutting, gluing, quizzing one another, and reading/writing, etc.
to get in the snow spirit.
LET IT SNOW, LET IT SNOW,
LET IT SNOW!

Bead Necklaces and Pajama Day!

The last few days before winter break were busy in Room 5!
Remember, all Fall your child was working hard to earn pony beads.
Well, we took those beads and made bead necklaces, which was most exciting to the KinderKids.

These are beads that YOUR CHILD earned by following the rules of the classroom, being a smart KinderKid, and making good choices.
I know I am so proud of their efforts!
We will continue to earn beads throughout the school year, so your child will have quite the collection of necklaces by June.
High-5 to my lil' angels!
The last day before break was Pajama Day at school and we took advantage of the coziness!
We read holiday stories, watched a movie, drank hot cocoa, wore jingle bell necklaces, and attended a sing-along in the gym.
It was a day of fun and memories!
Kindergarten ROCKS!
